Wayne Johnson brings nearly 40 years of experience to FCA. Two-time Olympic Epee Fencer; Wayne has fenced in several World Cup events representing the United States as Captain
of the Epee team individual fencer.
At the age of 15 Wayne's interest was piqued when he saw a 3X5 card in a local grocery store advertising the Mission High School Fencing Club. When the Mission High Fencing Club closed, Wayne began trekking weekly to the Letterman Fencing Club at Letterman Medical Facility at the Presidio in San Francisco, where he met his
long time coach and mentor Bill O'Brien, PhD.
Growing into his talent while in college at California State University, Hayward; won his first novice tournament while representing Letterman Fencing.
Completing his degree in Exercise Physiology and rapidly becoming the top male Epee fencer in the nation, the US Army recruited Wayne. Wayne's responsibilities in the Army included running the modern pentathlon training center at Fort Sam-Houston, TX and training world-class athletes in the sport of fencing.
Wayne attributes much of his growth and success in fencing to Dr. O'Brien. Dr. O'Brien provided Wayne with a positive environment to grow and develop as a fencer. Above all else, he provided Wayne and many other top rated fencers, with the opportunity to fence.
Wayne's contributions to both the fencing community and the community at large are extensive. His one true desire is to inspire fencer's as Dr. O'Brien inspired him. He teaches, the same principles to his students. As a coach at the Woodland Park Boys & Girls Club he has aided in the development of several aspiring fencers.
